Qatar 2022: Sterling Returns To England After Armed Intruders Raid His Home

Raheem Sterling has been left out of England’s squad for Sunday’s win over Senegal after armed intruders burst into his home, according to Sky News.

Sterling’s family were at the property at the time of the burglary.

A source close to Sterling told Sky News sports reporter Rob Harris that Sterling was “shocked” and “concerned for the welfare of his children”.

The 27-year-old has returned from the World Cup in Qatar.

When the squad list was released ahead of the round of 16, England tweeted that Sterling would not be participating “as he is dealing with family issues”.

After yesterday’s game, which England won 3-0, manager Gareth Southgate revealed Sterling was heading back to the UK.

They asked if he could return to play a part in the tournament, Southgate said: “I really don’t know, it’s a situation he needs time to deal with, I don’t want to put any pressure on him.

“Sometimes football isn’t the most important thing and family should come first.”

England captain Harry Kane said: “Our thoughts are with him and his family.

“It is a personal matter with him, but it’s never easy to see one or your teammates and friends have to deal with serious issues like this.

“We will take it day by day and make the best decision for him and his family.

“From us as a team we send him our best and hope to see him as soon as possible.”

At the same time, goals from Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka and Jordan Henderson secured them a win against Senegal.

They will be facing the champions,France in the quarter-finals on Saturday.
