The Lagos State Government has issued a warning to residents of Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Lekki, and the coastal communities of Badagry and Epe, warning them to exercise caution since a flood could backflow into their neighborhoods due to a high tide in the Lagos State Lagoon.
This was mentioned in a statement released on Monday by the commissioner for environment and water resources, Tunji Bello.
The Lagos commissioner stressed that the high tide of the Lagos lagoon has made it difficult for various channels of water to discharge effectively into the lagoon in the state.
“The high tide of the Lagos lagoon has made it impossible for storm run-off from the various channels to discharge properly into the lagoon,” he says, “which may induce stagnation into the streets and major roadways until the level of the lagoon lowers to allow for channel discharge.”
