Police officers in Ogun State have detained a Nigerian couple named Godday and Ebere Samuel on suspicion of human tr@fficking.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria reports, they were arrested on October 17, 2022 at Atan in Ota area of the State.
SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the command’s spokesperson, said in a statement on Monday, October 31, that the suspects were apprehended in response to a report lodged at Atan Ota Divisional Police Headquarters by one Adeniji Okikiolu, who reported that his 16-year-old daughter, Maria Adeniji, went missing from home on October 16.
He went on to say that while a search party was being organized to look for her, he was informed by someone that the missing girl had been seen with Ebere the day before.
Ebere was contacted with the information and invited to the station, but she vigorously denied ever having seen the missing girl on or before that day.
Ebere was later detained at the station after her plea was rejected. When her husband was contacted, he admitted to having taken the missing girl to somewhere in Lagos for onward transportation to Burkina Faso, where she will be employed as a m@id to one of their associates.
After further investigation, it was revealed that the couple has been involved in human trafficking for some time now, with their accomplices in Burkina Faso,” Oyeyemi said.
